This year Jamaica will be well represented at the 52nd NAACP Image Awards, organized by the US-based National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Not one, not two but three Jamaicans will be representing the island as Koffee, Buju Banton and Skip Marley (born in the United States to Jamaican parents) were nominated for Image Awards.
Skip Marley received his nomination in the Outstanding New Artiste category where he will find himself going up against some tough contenders in Doja Cat, Chika, D Smoke, and Giveon.
Skip Marley who is the grandson of Bob Marley showed his appreciation for being nominated on his social media.
“Bless up @naacpimageawards fi di nomination… honored to be included in this group of nominees,” he posted on his Instagram.
Buju Banton and Koffee were nominated for two awards each. They have both been nominated in the category Outstanding International Song for their collaboration on Pressure, which appears on Buju Banton’s album Upside Down 2020. He also received a nomination for the single Blessed from the same album, while Koffee has also been nominated for her quarantine track, Lockdown.
Nigerian singer and songwriter Tiwa Savage with Temptation and Tanana by American-Nigerian Davido featuring Tiwa Savage are the other two nominees in the international category.
The NAACP Awards will be presented on March 27 on BET.
