From the beginning of time sex has been for sale. As the saying goes, “prostitution is the oldest profession”. If you look up prostitute in the dictionary it says: A woman who engages in sexual intercourse for money.

It is a known fact that every man pays for sex in some form or the other. Whether it is paying a hooker in a back alley or taking a lady out to dinner or a movie, men usually pay for sex and most times it is before the panties go down.

Some women do not beat around the bush that their vagina is for sale. They stand on the corner, skimpily dressed, advertising sex and soliciting customers. Those are the women we refer to as “prostitutes”. But what about the women who are more subtle about selling sex?

Remember the women from the group TLC when they sang, “I don’t want no scrub, a scrub is a guy that can’t get no love from me”? Basically, what they were saying is that if you are broke, you cannot get them, you need to have money if you have any hopes of getting in their drawers. This point was later driven home by Kanye West when he said, “I ain’t saying she is a gold digger, but she ain’t messing with no broke n@#$&.” So what’s the difference between the women selling on the corner and the women who do not want any scrubs? The difference is, the women on the corner sex is cheaper, to the point and does not have the emotional baggage attached. The women who say they don’t want any scrubs lead men to believe that they sex is free, however, rent, phone bill, car payments etc must be paid by the man.

Look at someone like Donald Trump, he married a prostitute, but through marriage, Melania was able to trade in the “prostitute” label for a “wife” label. But at the end of the day, she is still engaging in sexual intercourse for money and Donald Trump is still paying for sex. Melania was once asked if the would have married Donald if he was not wealthy and her response was, “would he have married me if I was not beautiful?” So they both understand the dynamics of their trick/prostitute relationship. Had it not been for his money, a 68 year old Donald would not be with a 44 year old Melania. That’s just a fact. Their relationship can be summed up as “legal prostitution.

However, I stay Coogi down to the socks
Rings and watch filled with rocks

You can bet that it was not his ugliness, but rather his “rings and watch filled with rocks” that allowed the Notorious B.I.G to get beautiful women like Faith Evans, Charli Baltimore, Lil’ Kim and many others. Can you imagine Biggie working at Burger King, Faith Evans coming in to buy a big whopper and falling head over heels for Biggie? That probably wouldn’t happen.

It cannot be said that “every” man pays for sex or “every” woman is a prostitute, because that is simply not the case. There are men and women who fall in love with both having nothing, but together and with their love for each other they work and achieve. There are also those who don’t want much and are quite satisfied with the little that they have, so they live their lives happily together, loving each other. These cases are rare however. They are the exception, not the norm. At the end of the day, most women are prostitutes and most men pay for sex.

  1. 1. It was TLC that sang no scrubs. Destiny Child sang Bills, Bills, Bills. 2. I think you are over generalizing. While I certainly see your point, your evaluation makes it seem as though in most relationships, all the man wants is sex and all the woman wants is money. If that is the case, then yes, that is indeed what prostitution is for. But, correct me if I’m wrong, aren’t people looking for a life partner? If you can boil the typical relationship down to sex and money, then I can certainly see why society thinks it’s ok to pay women less. Since apparently we are funneling all of mens extra money out of their pockets then obviously that makes sense. But there is an element of culture being overlooked here. Talk about men paying for sex, back in the day, if a woman inherited money from their dead husband or fathers estate, they only kept it until they got married or remarried. Then the money became their new husband’s. That’s how George Washington became the richest man in America at that time: he said I Do. As women also have a past of being considered property at worst and child like at best, men are conditioned to be providers, while women are conditioned to be caregivers. This still plays out in modern society in many ways. Men are expected to pay for first dates for instance. It isn’t the sex you are paying for, it’s her trust that she is with a stable financially secure man that cares about Her. I am not going to say whether I think it’s wrong or right, I just think your analysis oversimplifies real life, kind of like Introductory physics when students perform equations neglecting air resistance. However, there is something to be said about the point you are trying to make, and perhaps women and society overall should stop thinking money is their security and savior. Money or the fact that the guy is willing to pay doesn’t actually mean the guy is a decent guy. And if a lady doesn’t offer to pay in the first date, it doesn’t make her a prostitute either. But hey, Mo Money Mo Problems, right?
