The Jamaican prison system has set Vybz Kartel free again, they have set the world boss loose again. Well, maybe not exactly free, just free enough to get some studio access and bless Dancehall fans with some more new music. This time, however, with a little help from a friend or maybe it should be considered a little help to a friend, Kartel is also blessing the Soca fans.

Trinidadian Soca top shot, Machel Montano, has teamed up with the incarcerated deejay for one of the tracks on his latest from titled The Wedding Album.

While Vybz Kartel is the biggest name on The Wedding album there are also other big name features like Lauryn Hill, Teddy Riley, Afro B, Stacy Barthe, DJ Tunez, Lu City, Hey Choppi, Bankulli and J-Stylz.

With the presence of a convicted murderer on the album, fans might be expecting some of the violent themed music that comes out of dancehall these days but that could not be further from the truth. The is said to be a collection of slow grooves for easy listening and dancing, with a message of love running straight through. Montano and his team note that just like a marriage, the theme is about union and unity on all levels.

“This album is a dedication to my wife and the wonderful partnership we share and which we celebrate physically, spiritually, and culturally. These songs translate the feelings we experience when we meet, the love when we dance and share space, as well as the joy we find when we are together,” said Machel Montano.

“These songs venture from dancehall to R&B to Afrobeat, all infused with that sweet soca. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with the artistes I’ve collaborated with and it’s an honour to sing side by side with such highly rated creatives whom I look up to and I’m a big fan of,” he added.

While the Mighty Sparrow is the king of Calypso, many consider Machel Montano the king of Soca. Like Dancehall is a child of Reggae, Soca is a child of calypso. In recent years Dancerhall has overtaken Reggae as Jamaica’s most popular music genre, so too Soca has taken over Calypso has Trinidad’s most popular music. So Machel Montano teaming out with Vybz Kartel could be considered the king of Trinidadian music and the king of Jamaican music in combination style.
