You can take her to Trinidad for the biggest carnival in the Caribbean and North America if not the entire world but she won’t bring her own Trinidadian flag. That’s because the greatest female rapper of all time, Nicki Minaj, is a Jamaican at heart. Even in the middle of carnival, the rap queen posted that she is “Trini to the bone” with Jamaican blood flowing through the veins.

Yes, Nicki’s Trinidadian genes stop at her bone but the blood flowing through her veins is black, green and cold in color. Maybe it is the fact that she was raised in Jamaica, Queens where there is a strong presence of Jamaicans and Jamaican culture. Or it could be because she dated Jamaican rapper, Safaree, for over a decade. Whatever it is, Nicki’s actions have always proven that she is a Jamaican at heart.

Interestingly Minaj has done numerous dancehall flavored songs including remixes or collaborations with Gyptian, Mavado and Sean Kingston; however, she has never recorded a song with a soca artist. Not only has she never recorded with a soca artist but she has never recorded a soca or calypso flavored song.

Nicki Minaj has also stated that Vybz Kartel is her king, a title she has never given to any soca artist.

So yes, Nicki Minaj is a Trinidadian by birth but she is a Jamaican in heart and actions.
