Tobacco has been dying a rapid death over the years and now major tobacco corporations are hoping that marijuana will be their savior. Thanks to Truth anti-tobacco campaign, cigarette smoking among teenagers have fallen from 23% in 2000 to only 6% in 2018. That number is continuing to fall with more and more states legalizing marijuana for recreational use.
As tobacco usage among young people is declining, cannabis usage among the group is rising rapidly. This shift from tobacco to marijuana is now forcing companies like Phillip Morrison to invest in marijuana in order to stay afloat.
Late last year, Altria, the owner of Marlboro, invested $1.8 billion into Cronos, a Canadian cannabis company.
Of course with these corporations jumping in the marijuana fray, weed will now pose the same threat as cigarettes as corporations will be adding chemicals to make weed just as addictive as cigarettes.
The best thing for weed smokers to do is to continue buying their weed from the black market, the street hustlers.
