Today words were spreading all over social media that the Grammy nominated rapper, Nipsey Hussle, who was shot and killed last week is actually related to Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia.
It was not said exactly how Nipsey Hussle is related Haile Selassie but the rapper was born in Eritrea, a small East African country of about 5 million people and actually lived there for the first 20 years of his life. Eritrea was annexed by Selassie in 1962 and did not gain its independence until almost 30 years later.
It is possible that Nipsey Hussle is somehow connected to Haile Selassie as most Eritreans have some Ethiopian lineage, however, 18 Karat Reggae conducted extensive research and was not able to find any blood lineage between the two men.
In 2018, Nipsey Hussle talk of the great victory Eritrea achieved by gaining their independence despite the fact that Israel, the United States and the Soviet were helping Ethiopia to keep Eritrea from gaining liberation.
“From being outnumbered and being against superpowers, to coming out victorious and being self-sufficient after the fact and independent in a country that believes in self-sufficiency and building from scratch,” Hussle said in an interview last year with Eri-TV, a state-owned Eritrean television station. “It’s similar to what I stand for in music by taking the stairs and doing it the long way based on integrity, self-sufficiency and being aware of the way that taking handouts can cripple you. Suffering through the process for the bigger picture. I feel proud, a sense of pride and a little bit obligated to carry that same integrity in my space.”
So far there has been absolutely no proof that Nipsey Hussle is related to Haile Selassie but every time the rapper speaks, it is like the world is listening to Marcus Garvey all over again. Marcus Garvey is the prophet who prophesied the crowing of Emperor Haile Selassie.
