For Etana to accomplish this feat she will not only have to do something that has never been done in the history of the Reggae Grammy Award but she will also have to do something that has never been done in 22 years. Not only has a female solo artiste or a group where the lead singer was a female never won the Reggae Grammy award but since 1996, a Marley has never lost a Grammy nomination unless it was to another Marley. Julian Marley lost a nomination to Damian Marley and Ziggy Marley lost a nomination to Stephen Marley.
Based on the word from Etana’s camp it seems like they realize what they are up against and have no confidence that they can win.
“We are not even thinking about winning,” Etana’s manager, Andre Morris said. “We are in such illustrious company that that in itself is a win for Etana. There are Sting, Shaggy, Ziggy, Protoje, and Black Uhuru, the first winners of the Reggae Grammy in 1985. We are honored.”
Marcus Garvey said that without confidence you have lost the race even before you begin, so Etana might be completely hopeless in creating history in 2019. However, that is not stopping fans and other reggae stars to support the strong one and hope for her to bring home the Reggae Grammy. Jah Cure, Fantan Mojah and other reggae artistes have said that they want Etana to win.
Ziggy Marley already know who is going to win and history says it is him.
